Kazakh bank assets up by 1.3 percent in Jan.

The total assets of Kazakh commercial banks as of February 1 amounted to 12.988 trillion tenge ($87.6 billion), increasing by 1.3 percent per month, the Committee for the Control and Supervision of Financial Market and Financial Institutions under the Kazakh National Bank said today.

As of February 1, the total estimated net capital of the banking sector amounted to 1.982 trillion tenge ($ 13.3 billion), increasing by 1.4 percent in the reporting period.

Assets nominated in foreign currency amounted to 35.1 percent of total assets. The banks' loan portfolio (including inter-bank loans) as of February 1 totaled 10.446 trillion tenge ($70.4 billion), decreasing by 0.3 percent per month.

As of February 1, the total liabilities amounted to 11.721 trillion tenge ($79 billion), increasing by 1.8 percent in January.

As of February 1, the share of liquid assets to total assets was 20.7 percent.

As of February 1, 2012, the total amount of income of the banks of the second level amounted to 324.9 billion tenge ($ 2.1 billion). Total expenses amounted to 360.3 billion tenge ($ 2.4 billion) excluding income taxes. As of Feb. 1, loss of the banks totaled 38.7 billion tenge ($261 million).

As of February 1, 2012, Kazakhstan's banking sector had 38 second-level banks.
