Turkey's exports increased by 8.6 percent in January, amounting to $10.374 billion compared to the same month of 2011, the Turkish Statistics Institute's report statedon Wednesday.
Turkey's imports during the period increased by 2.8 percent, amounting to $17.383 billion.
,As a result, Turkey's foreign trade deficit has decreased from $7.354 billion to $7.009 billion.
Most exports in January 2012 went to Germany - reaching $1.03 billion, or 4.2 percent more than in January last year. Exports to Iraq totalled $752 million, Great Britain $632 million, Italy $503 million, and France $497 million; in terms of exported Turkish goods.
The largest import volume was made from Russia to Turkey - amounting to $2.216 billion, or 8 percent more than in January 2011. Imports from China reached $1.592 billion, and Germany $1.346 billion.
Turkey's exports to the EU decreased by 0.9 percent in January 2012, reaching $ 4.5 billion compared to the same month of last year.
