51 of Iran's water reservoirs only 30 percent full

Water reserves in some 51 of Iran's dam reservoirs including Sefidroud, Lar, Khodafarin, Karkheh, Saveh and Zayanderoud reached 30 percent of total capacity, Mehr news agency reported.

According to the report, water reserves of seven dam reservoirs, including Kovsar, Dovlatabad and Abbaspour stood at 90 percent of the total capacity, last week.

For the being time, about 32 dam reservoirs` inputs have increased by 20 percent compared to the same period last year, meanwhile water inputs of 52 dam reservoirs have decreased by 20 percent.

Later in July, total water volume in dam reservoirs has reached 24.500 billion cubic meters.

Iranian media outlets reported in July that country's dam reservoirs' input during current water year (started in September 22, 2012) has reached some 32.100 billion cubic meters, which indicates a 0.7 percent decrease compared to same period of last year.

According to the report, dam reservoirs' output from beginning of the current water year has reached some 25.400 billion cubic meters, which indicates 9 percent fall compared to same period last year.

Iran is located in the arid zone and over the past 40 years the country has repeatedly faced drought.

The drought of 1992-2002 caused considerable damage to agriculture. Quotas for fresh water were applied in some cities including Tehran.
