By Fatih Karimov - Trend:

Production of five car models will be stopped in Iran due to their high pollution criterion.

Once new standards for carbon dioxide (CO2) pollutant come on stream, the five car models will not be produced as of December 22, Iran's Tasnim news agency reported on October 18.

Based on the new standards, the CO2 pollution should be lower than 163 grams per one kilometer of mileage. The amount should be decreased to 150 grams in the next Iranian fiscal year, which starts in March 2016.

CO2 shares 57 percent of total global greenhouse gas emissions, while the share of power plants in CO2 emission is very high.

Iran produced above 0.6 gigatons of CO2 in 2012, about 15 percent more than 2008, while the global figure was 32.3 Gt in 2012, according to Word Bank statistics.

Iran ranks 7th in the world for the volume of CO2 production.
