Less foreign bank branches registered in Turkey in 1Q18

In the first quarter of 2018, Turkey registered 2,756 branches of foreign banks, 120 less than in the same quarter of 2017, the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency of Turkey (BDDK) told Trend on Monday.

BDDK said the total number of employees at foreign banks' branches in the first quarter of 2018 amounted to 55,280, or 3,697 less than in the same quarter of 2017.

"In the first quarter of 2018, most branches were registered by Turkiye Garanti Bankası A.S. [936 branches], or 20 branches less than in the same quarter of 2017," said BDDK.

BDDK noted that in the first quarter of 2018 the number of employees at the branches of Turkiye Garanti Bankası A.S. were 18,639, or 876 less than in the same quarter of 2017.

In the first quarter of 2018, Denizbank A. S. had 708 branches registered, which is by 12 branches more than in the same quarter of 2017.

In the first quarter of 2018, the number of employees at the branches of Denizbank A.S. was 12,190, or 594 less than in the same quarter of 2017.

There are 52 banks in Turkey, of which 21 have foreign capital.
