By Matanat Nasibova - Trend:

By the end of the year, the Association of Textile Producers and Exporters of Azerbaijan (ATPEA) is planning to conclude business contracts with the Latvian Association of Textile Producers, Head of the ATPEA, head of Gilan Textile Park Mehriban Akhundova told Trend.

Contracts are expected to be concluded between the garment factories operating in Azerbaijan and their partners in Latvia.

"Comprehensive work is being carried out: the market and the possibilities of garment factories in Ganja, Yevlakh, Baku, and Lankaran are being studied. The quality standards of our customers are very high, and we must surely know that our enterprises will be able to meet all international requirements. Therefore, presently, we are discussing technical issues, as well as details, in order to start implementing joint projects on sewing underwear in 2018," the head of the association said.

Akhundova noted that Latvian textile manufacturers are interested in creating joint production in Azerbaijan in order to further export their products to the CIS markets.

"Azerbaijan has concluded bilateral agreements on free trade with the Commonwealth countries, and the creation of joint production in Azerbaijan will exempt the export of finished products to these countries from customs payments," Akhundova said.

The Association of Textile Producers and Exporters was established to support the development of this sector in Azerbaijan. The initiative on the establishment of this association was put forward by entrepreneurs involved in the textile sector. In general, such associations serve to improve relations between the state and the private sector.

Presently, there are domestic textile products in Azerbaijan's trade houses in Latvia, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, Belarus. The products produced at the Baku Textile Factory and Gilan Textile Park are available at those trade houses.
