Since the beginning of the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2019), $8.3 billion have been provided for the import of essential goods, medications, medical supplies and other raw materials and products, said Abdolnaser Hemmati, Governor of the Central Bank of Iran, Trend reports referring to the website of the Central Bank of Iran.

According to Hemmati, more than $3 billion of this amount was provided by exporters.

He added that, in accordance with the Central Bank's new currency policy, $800 million of that amount ($3 billion) was provided through the sale of products imported instead of the payment of foreign currency earned through exports to Iran’s NIMA system.

The governor of the Central Bank of Iran said that this sum is a great figure, considering the imposition of sanctions by the US and the number of days off in during the 1st month of the Iranian calendar.

"The return of exporters' currency to Iran's economy shows that the Central Bank's new currency policies and NIMA's currency rates are reasonable," he said.

The US imposed sanctions on Iran in November 2018.

NIMA is a system intended for the sale of a certain percentage of the foreign currency gained from export. The price of 1 euro in this system is 123,350 rials, and the price of $1 is 111,912 rials.
