Turkmenistan interested in agro-partnership with Argentina

A meeting with Director of the National Institute of Agricultural Technology of Argentina (INTA) Juan Balbin was held at the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan (UIET), Trend reports with reference to the UIET.

The Argentine side was acquainted with the achievements of Turkmen entrepreneurs and their export opportunities. Balbin, in turn, spoke about the activities of the INTA, founded in 1956 to stimulate the development of scientific research and expand agricultural activity. It was noted that the financing of scientific topics of the INTA is carried out mainly at the expense of private business.

During the conversation, the sides emphasized the outlined trend towards expanding trade and economic ties between the two countries, taking into account the increasing export potential of Turkmenistan and Argentina’s extensive experience in agriculture, livestock and energy.

The parties expressed interest in cooperation, involving interaction in such areas as selection of grain and vegetable crops, food safety and biotechnology, exchange of experience in the implementation of innovative technologies.

In this regard, the sides stressed the need to organize regular business forums. The meeting was also attended by Ambassador of Argentina to Turkmenistan (with residence in Moscow) Ricardo Ernesto Lagorio and representatives of the leadership of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan.

Turkmenistan grows cotton, wheat, rice, sugar beets and melons.
