Uzbekistan interested in importing products from Bulgaria

Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Elyor Ganiev attended the fifth session of the Bulgarian-Uzbek Intergovernmental Commission for economic, scientific and technical cooperation in Sofia, Trend reports citing Uzbek media.

Speaking at the meeting, Ganiev drew attention to the unrealized potential in trade and added that Uzbekistan is interested in importing high-quality products from Bulgaria manufactured in the fields of pharmaceuticals, chemical industry, technology, and agriculture.

Trade between Bulgaria and Uzbekistan has been increasing in recent years; in 2018, it increased by 1.3 percent compared to 2017 and reached $20 million.

During his stay in Sofia, Ganiev also held meetings and negotiations with representatives of the scientific, technical and business circles of Bulgaria to discuss further steps to expand bilateral cooperation and issues of interaction in the scientific and technical field.

As part of the meeting with the Director at Joint Innovation Centre of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences Marin Pandev, the possibilities of implementing joint research projects ,to be financed by each of the parties in their part were discussed.

During the negotiations with the Deputy Executive Director of Bulgarian Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Promotion Agency (BSMEPA) Yana Topalova, an exchange of views took place and ideas for the development of an innovative ecosystem were discussed.

The parties expressed interest in establishing cooperation on the exchange of experience and the implementation of joint research activities by the National Innovation Fund of Bulgaria and the Fund for Supporting Innovative Development and Innovative Ideas under the Ministry of Innovation of Uzbekistan.
