By Fakhri Vakilov - Trend:

Ukraine has significantly reduced sugar sales to Uzbekistan by almost 114,000 tons, Trend reports citing Uzbek media.

According to the estimates of the National Association of Sugar Producers of Ukraine “Ukrtsukor”, the situation will be aggravated further. The number of sugar factories in operation in the 2019/20 season will decrease from 42 to 32.

Deliveries to Uzbekistan, which is the main buyer of Ukrainian sugar, decreased from 210,000 to 96,000 tons. The supplies also decreased significantly in Azerbaijan and Tajikistan.

The deputy head of the association’s board Ruslana Yanenko stated that the share of deliveries to Uzbekistan in total exports decreased from 37 percent in 2017-18 to 24 percent in 2018-19.

The reasons for the reduction in shipments, in her opinion, are a change in the tax policy in Uzbekistan and a large number of logistic problems in the season related to the supply of Ukrainian sugar to Uzbekistan.
