The bilateral relations between Romania and Georgia are at a very good level, although both countries believe that there is potential for their further intensification and development, Embassy of Romania to Georgia told Trend.

"In this sense, the authorities of the two states are currently engaged in a process of expansion of cooperation, which reflects the privileged character of our relationship, which will confer the necessary impetus including in economic-commercial sphere", the embassy noted.

According to the embassy, proximity of Romania and Georgia to the Black Sea creates a unique framework for both countries to play a much greater role in further deepening regional economic cooperation, with a focus on concrete multilateral projects.

"We must emphasize the good prospects for the development of cooperation between Romania and Georgia at the Black Sea, especially the opportunities which exist in the fields of transport and energy," the Embassy of Romania to Georgia noted.

Talking about common projects, the embassy noted the good collaboration which Romania and Georgia have established, over time, in the field of the assistance for development.

According to the embassy, this year, Romanian Agency for International Development (RoAid), together with its Georgian partners, will continue acting for the operationalization of the Agreement of June 4, 2019, on the project entitled “Implementation of NATO Package for Georgia”.

"On the Romanian side, this project is managed by RoAid, together with the Romanian Border Police. The aim of the project is to assist the relevant agencies in Georgia in increasing their capacities regarding the control of maritime frontiers, an objective which is circumscribed to the larger target of supporting durable development, ensuring peace, justice and efficient functioning of institutions in developing countries," the embassy said.

It was stressed that Romania re-oriented 55 percent of its development assistance funds allocated for 2020 to new projects, with the aim of better supporting the European Union (EU) short and long-term packages for its partner countries in response to COVID-19.

"As part of the long-term efforts aimed at stimulating economic recovery of the EU partner countries, we intend to work with the Georgian side in identifying Romanian companies interested in investing in the second phase of construction of the wind farm in Georgia's Gori municipality. At this point, we want to underline that Romania, through RoAid, financed the technical-financial study on the extension of the above-mentioned wind farm," the embassy added.
