Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan increases value of its agricultural production

Agricultural products worth $391.8 million were manufactured in Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic from January through September 2020, Trend reports referring to the State Statistics Committee of the country.

The production growth for the reporting period compared to last year amounted to 3.6 percent. The production of meat in live weight amounted to 14,439 tons, milk – 73,608 tons, which is 1.7 percent and 1.6 percent more compared to the same period of 2019.

In the past nine months of this year, 63.405 hectares were sown in the republic, which is 435 hectares more than in the same period of 2019.

In 2020, potatoes were planted in Nakhchivan on 3,241 hectares, which is 13 hectares more than a year earlier.

The construction of a pumping station at the Araz reservoir, a line of pressure pipes, a pumping station in Kulus village of Shahbuz district, closed irrigation networks in Turkesh, Salasuz, Maralik villages and Boyukduz village is underway.

The funds in the amount of one million manat ($588,235) were allocated to the Cabinet of Ministers of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic upon the Azerbaijani president’s order dated April 23, 2020 "On additional measures to improve the irrigation of sown areas in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and meet the needs of the population in drinking water".

The measures were taken to protect, create new green spaces of the forest fund from January through June 2020.

The reforestation work was carried out on a 282-hectare-area and about 206,000 trees were planted.
