The number of hired employees in Azerbaijan grew as of May 1, 2021, Trend reports referring to the State Statistical Committee.
According to the committee, this indicator rose by 2,300 persons or 0.1 percent year on year, making up over 1.67 million people, of whom 913,600 were employed in the public sector, and 764,800 - in the private sector.
"Some 19.7 percent of wage earners from the total volume in the country were involved in education, 18.5 percent in trade and repair of vehicles, 12.8 percent – industry, 8.3 percent – health and public services, 7.2 percent - construction, and 6.7 percent – public administration, defense, and social security,” said the committee.
“Besides, 4.5 percent of the employees were engaged in transport and warehousing, 3.4 percent – agriculture, forestry and fishery, 3.4 percent - professional, scientific and technical activities, 1.7 percent - financial and insurance activities, and 13.8 percent in other sectors of the economy," added the committee.
According to preliminary data, from January through April 2021, the average monthly nominal salary of the hired employees in Azerbaijan shrank by 1.9 percent compared to the same period of 2020 by making up 722.3 manat ($424.8).
At the same time, in terms of the average salary the growth was observed in the mining industry, financial and insurance sectors, scientific and technical activities, information and communications, as well as in the transport and warehousing.
