Azerbaijan and Iran have great potential to meet each other's needs – Iranian official

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 10

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

There is great potential for Azerbaijan and Iran to meet each other’s needs, Deputy Governor of Iran's East Azerbaijan Province on economic issues Ali Jahangiri told Trend.

Jahangiri said currently the trade between the two countries isn't at the desired level, and there's potential for growth.

“As the East Azerbaijan Province of Iran is working to develop its industrial sector, some of the needs here could be met by the CIS member states. Azerbaijani businessmen can easily fill this void. With the help of Azerbaijani businessmen, goods produced in the East Azerbaijan Province can be exported to third countries, CIS countries, including Russia, which has a large market,” he added.

Jahangiri noted that necessary steps are currently being taken to move away from traditional trade, to make joint investments and joint work in the field of technology in order to develop trade between Azerbaijan and Iran.

Both countries have unique opportunities and needs, and the mutual provision of these needs will contribute to economic relations between the two countries, he pointed out.

Jahangiri said that about 40 Azerbaijani companies have invested in Iran, with half of these companies having invested in the East Azerbaijan Province. These companies also operate in the field of manufacturing. Mutually, more than 900 Iranian companies operate in Azerbaijan.
