Azeri Government and World Bank Specify Possibilities of Co-operation in Transport Sphere

The mission of the World Bank (WB) headed by the Bank specialist for the road infrastructure, Olive Le Bero, is on a visit to Baku to discuss with the Azerbaijani Government the prospects of the co-operation in the sphere of transport. During the 1-week visit, it is planned to discuss common questions in the transport sphere, Trend reports with reference to the WB Baku Office. The Bank expressed its wish to allocate additional $300 mln for financing the automobile roads in length of up to 750 km. The new stretches, for reconstruction of which the WB finances can be attracted, include automobile roads from Ismayilli to Gara-Maryam and from Mingachevir to Ismayilli. In addition, the bankers suggest financing the roads of agricultural and regional importance passing through the territories of Zakatala and Bakanken districts. Further, the Bank intends to assist in raising the efficiency of the transport system of Baku city and eliminating the automobile corks. The WB will allocate finances for the road projects in line with the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Within the WB Partnership Strategy with Azerbaijan, the WB intends to allocate $550 mln for the road projects over the next three years, and a decision has been made on $200 mln out of the same amount.
