The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) intends to design new quality standards for black oil, Head of Yusif Mammadaliyev Petrochemical Processes Institute Laboratory for Oil and Petrochemical Product Standardization Gasim Gasimov said on May 15.

"It was planned to develop new quality standards for black oil in 2009, but we have not yet received an order to launch this activity," Gasimov said.

In January-April 2009, Azerbaijan produced 534,350 tons of furnace black oil.

Moroever, SOCAR ordered to devise new quality standards to produce butane-butylene fraction.

Gasimov said at present this product is being manufactured in line with the state standard and it was decided to devise stat standard with this purpose.

It was planned to develop a quality standard for butane-butylene fraction production in 2009. "But SOCAR has not yet made its order," Gasimov said.

In January-April, the Heydar Aliyev Baku Refinery Plant produced over 44,000 tons of the liquefied gas compared to roughly 53,000 ton in January-April 2008. The country produced roughly 181,130 tons of the liquefied gas in 2008.

There are two oil refinery plants (ORP) in Azerbaijan, including the Heydar Aliyev ORP and Azneftyag ORP. The first ORP produces light oil and the second - dark products. Both ORPs' production capacity is 20 million tons of oil each year. Both ORPs belong to SOCAR which produces roughly 7 million tons of oil each year from offshore and onshore fields by own means.
