Richard Newell has taken office as head of the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). According to EIA, Newell as the seventh head of statistical and analytical agency of U.S Department of Energy will be responsible for management.
"Richard Newell is prominent leading expert in energy and ecologic market, policy and technologies. We are glad that he will take this position in EIA in this difficult time, U.S minister of energy, Steven Chu, said.
Newell is professor of energy and economy in Duke University. Earlier, he worked as senior economist for energy and environment in the President's Council of Economic Advisors.
"I understand role that independent agency can and must play in making reasonable energy decisions in state and private sectors of economy," Newell said.
Earlier, Guy Caruso was head of EIA. He has taken this position since February 2002.
The State Energy Information Administration is statistical agency of U.S Department of Energy established by the Congress in 1977.
