Azerbaijan, Baku, Sept. 3 / corr Trend E.Ismayilov /

Cooperative database of geological and oilfield data of the SOCAR (State oil company of Azerbaijan) will be created three phases over three years, a source in the company said on Sept. 3.

The first phase covers the creation of databases, its downloading and the necessary training for SOCAR's staff. In the second phase employees of SOCAR will be engaged in loading data into the database under the leadership of the company, which will deal with its creation. In the third phase, the company's workers will have to work independently, but with the support of the company, which created the base, the source added.

The database will store all the geological and geophysical data on squares, data on drilling and stock assessments. It will include everything that is related to the oil and gas sector. Some economic indicators relating to oil and gas sphere also may be included in the database in future, the source said.

Foreign companies may also store their data in these databases. The services will be offered to companies on a charged base. The database will provide safe storage of specialized information.

SOCAR will offer (on a charged basis) foreign companies (at their request) the existing data on various sites where a company would like to work. First, the data will be presented to the companies to see, if the same company would be interested in acquiring these data, they will be granted a foreign company on a charged basis. The company needs to view data to examine the sites where it would like to work. Moreover, the buyer company may interpret independently this data.

Access to the database will be limited. Access to data of foreign companies wishing to store their information in the SOCAR's database, will only be submitted to the company owner, located in the database information.

The creation of this database will allow SOCAR not only to ensure the security of its data and their compilation in one place, but also to provide a place in the database to other interested parties on a charged basis, which in turn will bring profit to the company.

SOCAR has worked over establishment of the corporative database over several years, holding numerous presentations the database will be established at SOCAR's own funds. The source did not mention the volume of necessary funds. "The volume of necessary funds will be known as soon as a contractor is selected, the source added.

The tender bids under the project on establishment of corporative database will be unsealed on Oct. 5. Then, SOCAR will consider the bids and if necessary, will submit its proposals for making amendments, the source said.

The tender includes proposals on establishment of the special database, which means accumulation and storage of geological and production data, installation of necessary software for deployment and management, and its connection to the system, organization of trainings for employees of SOCAR, establishment of a pilot database and software service support.

This will be the second tender. The company announced the results of the first tender as unsatisfactory. Participants of the tender were 5 foreign companies, particularly, Schlumberger, Halliburton and the results were summarized in June. Local companies did not take part in the tender. "Our companies lack enough experience in this sphere", the other source said earlier.

Azerbaijan has 57 oil and gas fields, including 18 offshore wells. SOCAR has more than 62,000 employees.
