Korean consortium KEPCO-Samsung owns 70 percent of Balkhash thermoelectric power station JSC

The purchase-sale agreement of Balkhash thermoelectric power station JSC's shares by "KEPCO-Samsung" consortium, "Kazahmis" JSC and "Samruk-Energo" JSC (subsidiary "National Welfare Fund of 'Samruk-Kazyna' JSC) was signed in Astana on September 4, 'Samruk-Kazyna' said.

"Participants of the construction of Balkhash thermoelectric power station upon the document include "Samruk-Energo" JSC with 25 percent +1 share, "KEPCO-Samsung" consortium - 70 percent - 1 share, "Kazahmis" JSC with 5 percent," 'Samruk-Kazyna' JSC said.

It should be noted that the purpose of construction of Balkhash thermoelectric power station is to ensure energy independence of Kazakhstan and meeting of Kazakh south region's increasing demand for electric power. Amount of generated electric power hits 2,640 megawatt.  

The project is estimated to the amount of $4.5 billion. The first and the second energy blocks will be constructed in 2013 but the third and the fourth ones in 2016.
