Tbilisi, Jan.21 / Trend , N.Kirtskhalia /

After the construction of an underground gas storage, Georgia's energy security will be strengthened, President of Georgia's Oil and Gas Corporation Zurab Janjgava said today at a meeting.

A meeting dealing with the study of preliminary construction and design of the gas storage was held today in Tbilisi. The design and methodology of the gas storage, as well as forms and deadlines for submission of final results were also presented at the meeting.

Janjgava noted that the Millennium Challenge Fund finalized a contract with Ramboll Oil&Gas in December 2009 for the implementation of the underground gas storage.

The gas storage will be constructed in Ninotsminda.

The project worth about $3.2 million envisages carrying out design work and complex analysis of technical, geological, conservation, economic, financial and legislative issues required for the start of construction. These works will last for 12 months. Oil and gas corporations will execute supervision of the works.

"After the implementation of this project, the level of Georgia's energy security will be the highest in the CIS and the country will be the most reliable partner in the transit projects," Zurab Janjgava said.
