U.S. company to supply equipment for Tashkent TPP

The U.S. company General Electric will supply equipment for construction of the combined-cycle plant (CCP) at the Tashkent Thermal Power Station (TPP) in August 2014, a representative of Uzbekenergo State JSC told Trend.

However, the source didn't specify the contract's cost.

The source pointed out that the gas turbine with auxiliary equipment has already been manufactured and is ready for shipment. The equipment is expected to be delivered in early August.

Uzbekistan started the construction of a combined-cycle plant with the capacity of 370 megawatt at the Tashkent TPP, in 2012.

The total cost of the project is $511.9 million.

The contract for engineering, procurement of equipment and construction of CCP, was signed with a consortium consisting of Synecta a.s and Istroenergo Group companies (both companies are from Slovakia) and SNC Lavalin Polska, Sp.zo.o company (Poland).

The project is financed with loans from the State Development Bank of China ($220 million), the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan ($76.2 million), commercial loan of Synecta a.s. company ($68.9 million), loans from Uzpromstroybank ($ 26.9 million), Japanese international Cooperation Agency ($2 million) and equity of Uzbekenergo ($117.7 million).

The construction of the CCP is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2015.

The installed capacity of the Tashkent TPP is 1,860 megawatt. The first power unit of the power plant was commissioned in 1963, and the last, the 12th one, in 1971.

Currently, the installed capacity of Uzbekistan's power plants is 12.4 million kilowatt, according to Uzbekenergo.
