Morocco is considering the opportunities of development of cooperation with Azerbaijan in energy sphere and firstly, plans to create a legislative basis for that, the Moroccan embassy in Azerbaijan told Trend.
Azerbaijan has a good reputation in the world as a producer of oil and gas, and Morocco is one of the leading countries in the world in the field of renewable energy sources, said the embassy.
“The issues of future cooperation have recently been discussed by Morocco’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mohamed Adil Embarch and the leadership of Azerbaijan’s Energy Ministry. Both sides noted the importance of establishing a solid cooperation in the field of fossil and renewable energy sources,” added the embassy.
Morocco sets a goal to increase the use of clean energy sources by 2030 in order to meet its national needs by 52 percent.
The draft agreement on cooperation between Morocco and Azerbaijan in the energy sphere is being considered, according to the embassy. The upcoming official visit of Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Nasser Bourita to Baku may be a good opportunity for signing such an important document, added the embassy.
It should be noted that Minister Bourita plans to visit Azerbaijan in October 2017.
During the visit, the Moroccan minister will have negotiations with Azerbaijani officials on prospects of the two countries’ cooperation in political, economic and humanitarian spheres.
Minister Bourita, who leads the Moroccan side in the bilateral intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation, will take part in the commission’s next meeting, to be held in Baku.
According to Azerbaijan’s State Customs Committee, the country’s trade turnover with Morocco amounted to about $1.74 million in January-June 2017, increasing by $566,510 or 48.2 percent as compared to the same period of 2016.
