Turkmenistan, EU mull possibilities of diversifying gas supplies

Turkmenistan-EU joint committee discussed possibilities of diversifying gas supply from Turkmenistan to Europe in a meeting in Ashgabat, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in a message Dec. 6.

The delegation from Brussels was headed by Luc Devigne, director for Russia, Eastern Partnership, Central Asia and OSCE at the European External Action Service (EEAS).

The sides discussed trade and economic cooperation between Turkmenistan and the EU. In particular, macroeconomic situation in Turkmenistan, rule of law and humanitarian matters, public administration reforms, energy, transportation and environmental protection were discussed.

The sides also exchanged views on development of regional cooperation, implementation of the EU technical projects and programs, as well as energy and security projects in Turkmenistan.

The next meeting of the Turkmenistan-EU joint committee is scheduled to be held in Brussels in 2018.
