BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 11

By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

The drilling of the second well as part of the Shallow Water Absheron Peninsula (SWAP) project will be completed in coming days, Bakhtiyar Aslanbayli, bp’s Vice President for the Caspian region, Communications and Advocacy, told Trend.

He noted that then demobilization and mobilization of the drilling rig will follow, after which the drilling of the third well will start in two or three weeks.

Satti rig will be mobilized for the drilling, added Aslanbayli.

bp is operator and holds a 25% interest in the SWAP production sharing agreement (PSA) with partners SOCAR holding a 50 percent interest and LUKOIL the remaining 25%.

The SWAP contract area includes three prospective areas. A total of three exploration wells are planned to be drilled, including NKX01 exploration well in the North-East prospect, QBDX01 exploration well in the South-East prospect, and BHEX01 exploration well in the Western prospect.

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and bp on December 22, 2014, signed a production sharing agreement on joint exploration and development of potential fields in SWAP. The contract was ratified by the Azerbaijani parliament on April 14, 2015.
