BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 11. Iran exports only a small part - about 6 percent - of the gas produced in the country, an official of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), Mazyar Sayyahnejad said, Trend reports citing Shana News Agency.
According to Sayyahnejad, Iran’s gas is exported to neighboring countries, including Türkiye, Iraq and Azerbaijan. The reason for the low gas export is the excessive consumption in the country.
“If 900 million or 1 billion cubic meters of gas is produced in the country daily, of this, 500 million cubic meters were consumed by residential buildings and small industrial facilities,” he said.
The official also pointed out that 44 percent of gas produced in Iran is consumed by residential buildings and small industrial facilities, 17 percent - by large industrial facilities (petrochemical plants, steel plants and so on), and 30 percent - by thermal power plants.
Within the first six months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2022), the gas consumption in Iran amounted to 109 billion cubic meters.
Of this, 39.3 billion cubic meters of gas were consumed by residential buildings and small industrial facilities, 26.9 billion cubic meters - by Iran's large industrial facilities and, 43.4 billion cubic meters - by Iran’s thermal power plants.
