BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 6. In the near future, Azerbaijan may become one of the shareholders of the Latvian "Latvijas Gāze" energy company, said Member of the European Parliament Andris Ameriks, Trend reports via the Latvian press.
"The work in this direction is underway," said Ameriks.
Ameriks noted that Azerbaijan may become a serious partner of the EU, and help solve the energy problems.
"Currently, Azerbaijan supplies natural gas to such European countries as Bulgaria and Greece, and 60 percent of Italy's demand is met by Azerbaijani gas. And this is far from the limit," added Ameriks.
In the energy sector of Baltics, "Latvijas Gāze" is one of the leaders. The wholesale and sale of natural gas to business customers is carried out in Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia. After the opening of the Finnish gas market on 1 January, 2020, "Latvijas Gāze" has successfully started natural gas trading in Finland as well.
