BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 29. In October 2023, the STAR oil refinery operated by the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) in Türkiye demonstrated a substantial increase in aviation fuel production, surging by 74.8 percent compared to the same month in 2022, Trend reports.

The refinery produced 128,621 tons of aviation fuel in October 2023, a significant rise from the 73,598 tons produced in October 2022, says Türkiye's Energy Markets Regulatory Authority (EPDK).

STAR swiftly adapted its production strategy when the demand for aviation fuel decreased due to COVID-19-related restrictions. The refinery, originally designed to produce 1.6 million tons of aviation fuel, redirected its production capacity to diesel fuel. Following the lifting of restrictions, the plant resumed aviation fuel production to meet the growing demand in the market.

The STAR plant, with an investment of $6.3 billion, commenced operations in October 2018, with $3.3 billion of the project's costs covered by borrowed funds. The annual processing capacity of the STAR plant is 10 million tons, and it has the capability to process 214,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
