In April the Azerbaijani gas infrastructure at the border with Iran will be able to receive around 2bn cu m of gas per year, Trend reports referring to Alikhan Malikov, the head of Azerigas JSC.

Azerbaijan annually delivers 500,000 cu m of gas to Iran through the Astara gas-compressor station. The gas is delivered to Iran instead of gas supply to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (AR).

Azerbaijan considers construction of new gas pipeline Astara-Hajigabul to import the Iranian gas to Azerbaijan. It will be pipeline of high pressure. The feasibility on the construction of new gas pipeline is ready, but the value of the project has not been determined yet. Its length will comprise around 211km, diameter - from 1,000 to 1,200mm.

Iranian gas will not exceed the value of the Russian gas, sold at $110 per 1,000 cu m. The acquisition of Iranian gas will allow diversification of fuel supply to Azerbaijan and strengthening of energy safety of the country.
