Czech Exim bank and Czech Export Guarantee and Insurance Corporation are ready to support quality and well prepared business projects in Azerbaijan, Milan Ekert,
Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Azerbaijan said in an interview with Trend.

“Last year for instance, we finished a pilot project in Qaravalli village, Shamakhi region, aimed at raising awareness about the efficient use of energy resources. Under the framework of this project, our Embassy with support of various Czech companies reconstructed a school in accordance with up-to-date energy efficiency standards. This project, completely funded by the Czech side, has been offered to relevant authorities as a model for reconstruction of similar schools located through the regions of Azerbaijan. The project was so successful that the Czech Exim bank even proposed a loan to Azerbaijani government to fund the continuation of the project should they see it necessary,” he said.

As for investments, Ekert noted that during the period from 2006 to 2018, Czech companies invested more than $2.5 billion in Azerbaijan, which makes the Czech Republic the 9th largest foreign investor into Azerbaijan’s economy.

The investments were directed mostly into modernization of transport infrastructure, said the diplomat.

“Azerbaijani investments into the Czech Republic are much more modest. For the same period, they reached $80 million and they were directed mostly into real estate and hospitality sectors,” he added.
