Transactions on public securities on Azerbaijan's primary market down

The total volume of public securities transactions on the Baku Stock Exchange (BSE) amounted to over 2.2 billion manat ($1.3 billion) from January through May 2020 against 5.7 billion manat ($3.3 billion) in the same period of the last year, Trend reports referring to the BSE data.

As a result, the total volume of operations carried out in the first 5 months of 2020 decreased by 2.6 times year on year.

Among the conducted transactions, 265 transactions (53 percent of the total volume) worth 1.82 billion manat ($1.07 billion) were conducted in the primary market, which is three times less than from January through May 2019. Nearly 53 percent of them (150 transactions) were conducted with short-term notes of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) worth over 1.4 billion manat ($840 million) - a decrease of 3.7 times.

As many as 245 operations totaling 407.5 million manat ($239.7 million) accounted for the secondary market of public securities. The share reached 18 percent of the total amount and 47 percent of the total number of public securities transactions.

REPO transactions on public securities amounted to 632.5 million manat ($372 million) showing an increase of 2.1 times. In total, 342 repo transactions on public securities were carried out at BSE from January through May 2020, which is 151 repo transactions more than during the first five months of 2019.
