Iran's possible accession to the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) is in the Expediency Council for the decision-making stage, member of parliament economic commission Gholamreza Marhaba told Trend in an interview.
The case should be decided by the Expediency Council, the parliament has referred the FATF related bills to the Expediency Council, which has passed a complex process and currently is not possible to speak about it, he said referring to a possible review of the case.
According to the MP, the parliament's priority is to see if the accession to Palermo and CFT conventions is in favor of the country.
"There are some who are supporters or oppose Iran joining the FATF. If the organization guarantees Iran's interests then we would comply with it but the common views claim that joining these conventions would be abusive to the country's interest," he indicated.
Iran's banking system has already enacted amendments to counter-terrorist financing and anti-money laundering acts but the country's accession to the FATF depends on the decision of officials.
