Azerbaijan's turnover on payment cards notably grows

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 4. The turnover on payment cards through ATMs and POS terminals in Azerbaijan notably by 1.9 billion manat ($1.1 billion), or 38.15 percent, from 5.1 billion manat ($3 billion) to 7 billion manat ($4.1 billion) as of July 1, 2023, Trend reports.

According to the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA), the total number of payment card transactions amounted to 89.1 million (an increase of 67.73 percent over the year), including 4.5 million transactions worth 232 million manat ($136.4 million) were carried out abroad.

The number of debit card transactions (both within the country and abroad) amounted to 80.361 million in the amount of 6.5 billion manat ($3.8 billion).

In addition, the number of transactions carried out through ATMs in the country amounted to 12.131 million worth 2.9 billion manat ($1.7 billion), and through POS terminals in the country - 26.328 million transactions worth 552 million manat ($324.7 million).

Moreover, the number of transactions carried out by the bank's customers using credit cards (within the country and abroad) amounted to 8 million worth a total of 417 million manat ($245.3 million).

The number of transactions carried out through ATMs in the country amounted to 456 thousand transactions worth 96 million manat ($56.5 million), and 4.412 million transactions worth 152 million manat($89.4 million) were carried out using POS terminals.

In general, the number of payment cards in Azerbaijan on the first of July 2023 increased by 2.381 million, or 18.81 percent compared to the same period last year and reached 15.04 million (12.659 million year-on-year).
