Turkey will launch a new satellite, Turksat 5A, into orbit at the end of this year, Turkey’s Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure told Trend on June 3.

According to the ministry, work on the satellite construction is at the final phase.

“Turksat 5B satellite's launch into orbit is expected to take place in 2021,” the ministry noted.

It was also noted that the Turksat 6A satellite, the third domestic satellite, will be launched into orbit in 2022.

Earlier, it was reported that Turkey will create the first domestic carrier rocket BURAK. The project is implemented within the government’s plan Vision 2023.

The first Turkish reconnaissance satellite RASAT was launched in 2011.

Turkey launched the second satellite Gokturk 2 from the Chinese Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center on December 18, 2012. The satellite is used for defense purposes.
