Cargo traffic increases in Georgia

According to the data for 11 months of 2019, freight turnover increased in Georgia, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.

Over 11 months of 2019, Georgia transported 38.1 million tons of cargo, which is 1 million tons more than in the same period in 2018.

The volume of cargo handled at seaports and terminals amounted to 15.8 million tons, which is 2 million tons more than in the same period in 2018.

According to the Ministry of Economy, the volume of recycled containers for 11 months of 2019 exceeded the total annual figures for 2018, which amounted to 453,938 TEU.

From January through November 2019, 22.8 million tons of cargo was transported by civil aviation, which is 543.49 tons, or 2.14 percent less than in the same period in 2018.

According to the ministry, the volume of goods transported by rail also increased, and for 11 months of 2019 it amounted to 9.8 million tons. This figure is 0.8 million tons more than in the same period in 2018.

As for the ports, the volume of recycled containers increased only in the seaport of Poti.

From January through November 2019, 7.9 million tons of cargo were handled in the port of Poti (5.8 million tons of cargo in the same period of 2018), and the volume of processed cargo in the Batumi seaport decreased by 0.5 million tons and amounted to 2.9 million tons.
