Uzbekistan and Latvia discussed prospects for the resumption of regular flights of Uzbekistan Airways on the route Tashkent – Riga – Tashkent, Trend reports with reference to the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Latvia.
The mentioned issue was discussed by the Ambassador of Uzbekistan Kadambay Sultanov and the Deputy Secretary of State of the Ministry of Transport of Latvia Uldis Reimanis via online meeting.
It is reported that the issue for the resumption of regular flights between Uzbekistan and Latvia was raised in connection with the decision of the Latvian government to allow air connections with third countries starting from March 17 this year.
Commenting on the decision of the Latvian government to open the country for flights from third countries, the Deputy Secretary of State noted the expediency of starting to discuss the technical details of the resumption of Tashkent – Riga – Tashkent flights.
At the same time, the importance of taking into account the degree of restrictions and requirements planned for introduction in the country was emphasized.
In addition, the parties exchanged views on the preparations for the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission (IGC) on economic, industrial, scientific, and technical cooperation.
Uldis Reimanis said that Latvia supports efforts to take practical steps to intensify cooperation with Uzbekistan, despite the difficult situation with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Also, the important role of the IGC in saturating the agenda of interaction with new practical content was noted. It was emphasized that the next meeting of the Uzbek-Latvian IGC is viewed as a key institutional mechanism aimed at reaching important agreements, including in the field of transport and logistics.
