Mehrabad Airport experienced a decline in landings by 27 percent and departures by 29 percent from August 16 to 21, said Gholamreza Rostamian the Executive Advisor to the CEO of Iran's Airports Company, Trend reports citing IRNA.
Iran's National Committee on Combating Coronavirus issued a notification on August 12th, imposing more restrictions on the traffic of the passenger.
The decree announced that the traffic of the passenger with public transport vehicles, including flights, trains, buses, and cars on all routes will be reduced for 6 days.
Gholamreza Rostamian said that the Mehrabad airport, as the busiest airport in the country, experienced a 29 percent decrease in traffic of passengers.
He also stated that Mashhad International Airport also faced a 48 percent decrease in flights.
“During the mentioned period, Isfahan Airport in both departments of arrival and departure passengers experienced traffic declined by 35 percent and Shiraz Airport by 27 percent,” he noted.
Rasht airport has experienced a 26 percent decline in flights and 33 percent in traffic of passengers, he said adding that Sari airport faced a 38 percent decrease in flights and 50 percent in traffic of passengers.
Since late June, Iran has seen what officials have called a fifth wave of COVID-19, the country's worst yet, largely blamed on the highly infectious Delta variant.
Iran imposed new restrictions on driving between provinces until August 27 as well as the closure of government buildings, banks, and non-essential shops.
