Cargo handling at Iran's Imam Khomeini Port soars

BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 11. The volume of cargo loaded and unloaded at Iran’s Imam Khomeini port in Khuzestan Province (south-western Iran) rose by 44.6 percent in the 9th month of the current Iranian year (November 22 through December 21, 2023), compared to the same period last year, Trend reports.

Data from Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) shows that 4.57 million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded at the Imam Khomeini port in the 9th month. Of that, 2.46 million tons were loaded and 2.11 million tons were unloaded.

So, 2.06 million tons of cargo were exported and about 1.95 million tons were imported through the Imam Khomeini port over the reporting month. Also, 378,000 tons of cargo were loaded at the port for transit.

During the 9th month, 21,000 tons of cargo were loaded and 162,000 tons were unloaded at the port for cabotage, as well as 2,890 tons were loaded and 3,110 tons were unloaded for transshipment.

At the same time, 119 tons of cargo were loaded and 700 tons were unloaded for other purposes.

Some 1.68 million tons of essential products, 80,600 tons of metal products, 732,000 tons of construction and mining materials, 528 tons of equipment, vehicles, spare parts and 237,000 tons of chemicals were loaded and unloaded at the Imam Khomeini port during the 9th month of the current Iranian year.

Moreover, nearly 90,500 tons of leather, clothing, fibers, paper, and wood materials, 83,200 tons of container products, and about 1.67 million tons of crude oil and oil products were loaded and unloaded in this port within the mentioned month.

In total, 13.3 million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded in Iranian ports in the 9th month of the current Iranian year. Of that, about 5.57 million tons were loaded and 7.74 million tons were unloaded. This is an increase of 11.4 percent compared to the same month last year.
