Almaty bans demonstrations of journalists

Journalists' demonstration against bill on launching censor on internet has been banned, Adil Soz, fund advocating freedom of speech, said.

"Almaty city administration denied Kazakhstan's Azat democratic party a right to stage a demonstration in support of independent media and on occasion of Day of Kazakhstan Journalism. The city administration claimed that "the demonstration will hinder city traffic," the fund said.  

The fund said representatives of journalistic and public organizations oppose bill on regulation of information and communication networks which, in fact, imposes a censorship on internet and ban for all media outlets to cover elections, demonstrations, strikes and international relations with criticism.
