Baku, Azerbaijan, Feb. 18
By Elena Kosolapova - Trend:
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will allocate $103 million for modernizing the Centre-South Road Corridor, leading from Kazakhstan's Astana to Almaty, the EBRD press service said Feb. 18.
The Bank allocated the loan to KazAvtoZhol, a national road operator, under the sovereign guarantee for the reconstruction and widening of an 80-km section between the villages of Kurty and Buribaytal in the Almaty region.
The EBRD loan is a part of a wider program to rehabilitate and upgrade a 228-km stretch of the highway, which remains un-modernized.
The full reconstruction of roads in the transport corridor connecting Astana and Almaty is a part of Kazakhstan's Strategic Plan 2020.
