BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 13. Kazakhstan and China cargo turnover exceeded 23 million tons, which is an all-time high, Yerlan Koyshibayev, Deputy Chairman of “Kazakhstan Temir Zholy” (KTZ) said during a press statement, Trend reports, citing Kazakh media.

He added that KTZ, the national railway operator of Kazakhstan, is currently observing the continuation of this trend, as the increase in cargo turnover between the nations exceeded 30 percent year-over-terms from January through March.

“In terms of Kazakh exports to China, we recorded an increase of 53 percent in the first quarter. We see significant potential to increase cargo turnover, and we will continue our work in this direction”, the deputy chairman noted.

Koyshibayev also said that more than 1 million Twenty foot Equivalent Units (TEU) were transited through Kazakhstan during the previous five years.

Overall, the volume of transit cargo transportation through the territory of Kazakhstan, increased by 35 percent YoY and amounted to 7.2 million tons in 1Q2023. Container traffic also increased by 19 percent and reached 313,000 TEUs.
