ASTANA, Kazakhstan, December 22. Over 120 new projects in the manufacturing industry were launched in Kazakhstan in 2023, worth more than 488 billion tenge (about $1.06 billion), Trend reports.
The most key and important for the economy:
- In August, a plant for processing old sludge from the Don Mining and Processing Plant was launched. The plant's capacity is 400,000 tons of chrome concentrate per year, the total investment volume is 96 billion tenge (about $209 million). In total, as a result of its implementation, 14.5 million tons of historically accumulated waste will be processed.
- In November, the technical launch of a large-scale project for the production of special coke took place in the Karaganda region. The enterprise with a capacity of 400,000 tons per year created 184 jobs. In addition to special coke, it is also planned to produce coal tar and coal oil in the amount of 72,000 tons per year.
- In the same month, domestic production of household appliances opened at the Silk Road Electronics plant in the industrial zone of the city of Saran, Karaganda region. The automated plant will produce 7 types of products under the Artel brand.
- Another important project is a lime production plant with a capacity of 330,000 tons of products per year, launched in the Karaganda region. It is expected that the plant will meet all the republic's needs for lime.
- In September, in the Zhetisu region, the production of ceramic tiles was expanded from 1.2 to 3.5 million square meters per year, which will cover 10 percent of the country's imports for these products.
- A number of projects have been implemented in Kostanay region as part of industrial cooperation with global manufacturers. Thus, serial production of Jetour cars was established with a capacity of 10,000 units per year, and production of Škoda cars with a capacity of 15,000 units per year was launched.
- As part of localization development, the production of Kia Sportage and Kia Cerato cars with a capacity of 25,000 units per year. The implementation of a project for the production of Chevrolet Onix cars with a capacity of 30,000 units per year has begun.
- Construction of a new Kia plant with a capacity of 70,000 cars per year has begun on the territory of the industrial zone of Kostanay. In parallel, construction of a localization center is underway, where auto components will be produced with the participation of SMEs.
- The modernization of the Hyundai Trans Almaty plant in Almaty has been completed: technological operations for welding and painting of Golden Dragon city buses, as well as all models of Hyundai trucks, have been launched.
- Construction of a Hyundai automotive localization park for the production of seats, multimedia systems and plastic parts has also begun in Almaty. Investments within the framework of deepening localization will amount to 12.4 billion tenge (about $27 million).
