BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 13. The World Bank (WB) is ready to provide support for developing a Roadmap and Financial Plan for implementing projects related to drinking water supply and wastewater systems in Kyrgyzstan, Antonella Bassani, Vice President of the Europe and Central Asia Region at WB said, Trend reports via the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan.

The statement was made following the meeting between the Chairman of Kyrgyzstan’s Cabinet of Ministers Akylbek Japarov with the WB’s representative in Washington, within the framework of Japarov's working visit to the US. Japarov is taking part in the World Bank and International Monetary Fund's Spring Meetings (April 10-16).

During the event, Bassani shared plans to participate in a Water Forum to be held in Kyrgyzstan in the near future.

The sides discussed issues of bilateral cooperation in all areas of mutual interest, such as energy, human resources, drinking water supply, irrigation, and came to common understanding of the key areas of cooperation between WB and Kyrgyzstan until 2027.

Japarov said that Kyrgyzstan is showing positive economic growth and is capable of addressing large-scale development tasks. According to him, now it is time for the country and WB to move on a new level of cooperation.

At the end of the meeting, Kyrgyz Chairman suggested developing a mechanism to exchange external debt for the implementation of green initiatives. Bassani responded, saying that WB is ready to carefully study it.

The World Bank has been providing investments, technical assistance, advisory, and analytics to major economic sectors of Kyrgyzstan since the country joined the bank in 1992.
