BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 11. Kyrgyzstan plans to import 500 million kilowatt-hours of electricity from Russia in 2023, Chairman of the Board of the National Energy Holding of Kyrgyzstan Talaibek Baigaziev told local reporters, Trend reports via Kyrgyz media.
Baigaziev noted that recently Kyrgyzstan has reached an agreement with Russia to import 500 million kilowatt-hours of electricity in 2023, and 314 million kilowatt-hours in the first quarter of 2024.
"We import electricity from Turkmenistan and Russia for the first time this year. If there is an increase in consumption, then we will agree on an increase in imports," Baigaziev said.
According to him, Kyrgyzstan has reached an agreement on importing electricity via energy systems of Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Russia and for transit through energy system of Uzbekistan.
"When we have shortages of electricity in winter, we take it from the power system of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan," he said, adding that in the summer Kyrgyzstan returns the exporting partners equal amount of imported electricity.
He noted that if in the previous years the consumption in the country was 12 billion kilowatt-hours with 14 billion kilowatt-hours generated, last year the consumption went up to 16 billion kilowatt-hours and is expected to reach 17 billion kilowatt-hours in 2023.
