Electricity consumption growing in Kyrgyzstan

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, September 7. A total of 16.1 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity was consumed in Kyrgyzstan in 2022, which is 0.8 percent less than in 2021, Trend reports.

As per the State Statistical Committee of the country, electricity consumption in the industrial sector (including the distribution of electricity for communal and household needs) amounted to 7.971 billion kilowatt-hours in 2022. The figure is 0.4 percent more than 7.940 billion kilowatt-hours in the preceding year.

Meanwhile, electricity consumption in the construction sector increased by 5.5 percent and in the education sector by 1.7 percent.

Overall, Kyrgyzstan’s energy sector enterprises generated 13.9 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity in 2022, which is 8.3 percent less than in 2021. Approximately 86 percent of this volume was generated by hydroelectric power stations.

At the same time, a total of 550 million kilowatt-hours of electricity were exported from Kyrgyzstan in 2022, which is 0.7 percent more than in 2021.
