Kyrgyzstan slows down on import of tomatoes

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, November 28. Kyrgyzstan imported 16,317 tons of tomatoes valued at $9.126 million from January through September 2023, Trend reports.

Data from the State Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan indicates a 17.5-percent decrease in the volume of imports and an 11.7-percent drop in value.

During the period under review, the majority of tomatoes were imported from Turkmenistan, totaling 10,357 tons valued at $6.268 million. Following was Uzbekistan, from which 5,645 tons were imported for $2.575 million.

Additionally, 153 tons were imported from China, amounting to $201,000, and 132 tons were imported from Kazakhstan for $43,100 during the same period.

Kyrgyzstan's foreign trade turnover totaled $10.790 billion from January through September 2023, which is an increase of 26.2 percent compared to the same period in 2022.

Exports totaled $2.108 billion, up 49.6 percent from the first nine months of 2022. Imports increased by 21.6 percent year on year, hitting $8.681 billion in 2022.
