BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 24. The World Food Program in Tajikistan, in collaboration with the Russian Embassy in the country, has provided humanitarian aid in the form of food supplies to the Ministry of Education and Science of Tajikistan, as part of the national school feeding program, Trend reports.
The aid was delivered to the Districts under Tajikistan Central Government Jurisdiction, Khatlon and Gorno-Badakhshan regions. It includes 1,552 tons of fortified wheat flour and 67 tons of yellow peas. An additional 135 tons of yellow peas were also delivered to the Sughd region.
The ceremony was attended by the Chargé d'Affaires of Russia in Tajikistan, Shamil Shamsutdinov, the Deputy Country Director of UNDP in Tajikistan, Charles Inwani, and representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of the country.
During the meeting, it was announced that another batch of food supplies, consisting of 943 tons of enriched flour, 182 tons of enriched sunflower oil, and 135 tons of yellow peas, will be delivered to the Districts under Tajikistan Central Government Jurisdiction, Khatlon and Gorno-Badakhshan regions in the near future.
Furthermore, 1,350 tons of flour and 61 tons of sunflower oil have been designated for the Sughd region.
The school feeding program is the largest project of the World Food Program (WFP) in Tajikistan, which has been financed by Russia since 2013.
Within its framework, approximately 440,000 students in grades 1-4 from 2,000 schools in 52 districts and cities of the country receive hot meals on a regular basis. Additionally, 50 school cafeterias have been renovated and equipped with modern facilities.
