DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, October 17. A total of 17.1 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity was generated in Tajikistan from January through September 2023, Trend reports.

Data from the National Statistical Committee indicates that the figure increased by 4.8 percent compared to the same period in 2022.

Additionally, during the reporting period, Tajikistan exported electricity worth over $104.5 million, which is a 4.8 percent increase compared to the same period in 2022 ($99.8 million).

The value of the country's electricity exports in September amounted to nearly $20 million, which is 9 percent less than the $22 million recorded in August of the same year.

During the "Dushanbe-2023" International Investment Forum in late September 2023, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon said that the country plans to increase its power generation capacity by 4,000 megawatts through the construction of new hydroelectric power stations and the reconstruction of existing ones in the near future.

He emphasized that hydroelectric power is considered one of the most critical aspects of furthering Tajikistan’s economic development.

Rahmon noted that Tajikistan is currently implementing one of the largest hydroelectric power projects, the construction of the Rogun Hydroelectric Power Plant, with a capacity of 3,800 megawatts. This plant has the capability to provide clean electricity not only to Tajikistan but also to neighboring countries in the region.
