BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 6. The Governor of the Astrakhan region of Russia Igor Babushkin proposed to consider the possibility of opening direct regular flights between the cities of Astrakhan (Russia) and Turkmenbashi (Turkmenistan), Trend reports with reference to the Turkmen media.

According to the information, this proposal was announced by the governor during a meeting with the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

During the meeting, Babushkin informed the President that a new cruise liner built to operate on the Caspian Sea will soon be launched in Astrakhan, and also suggested considering the possibility of opening regular flights between the cities by Turkmenistan Airlines.

Issues of bilateral cooperation in the fields of trade, industry, education, logistics, and transport were also discussed at the meeting.

Meanwhile, at the moment Russia and Turkmenistan are connected by direct flights from two airlines. Turkmenistan Airlines operates regular flights from Ashgabat to Moscow and Kazan, and Russian S7 Airlines flies on the route Moscow - Ashgabat - Moscow twice a week.
