BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 25. Turkmenistan plans to harvest 47,400 tons of rice from the Lebap region located in the east of the country this season, Trend reports.

According to official data, 10,200 hectares of land are being sown by farmers in this region this year, which has not changed compared to last year.

Currently, rice is planted together with other intermediate crops in the fields where the wheat crop was harvested.

In order to improve rice varieties, some of its species imported from Russia were tested last year.

More than 50 machines are used for growing and harvesting rice in the Lebap region, most of them are foreign–made combines, such as Claas Tucano 430 and Case.

The development of agriculture in Turkmenistan is taking place with high dynamics and is one of the key sectors of the country's economy.

Various types of agricultural crops are actively grown on the territory of Turkmenistan, including wheat, cotton, rice, sugar beet, fodder plants, vegetables, melons, as well as fruit and berry crops.
