BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 20. UN International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan are implementing a project to introduce renewable energy sources in medical institutions of the country, a source at the UNICEF told Trend.

It was noted that the first innovative energy supply project was the Pelvert Rural Health Center in the Halach district of the Lebap region of Turkmenistan, where a new solar photovoltaic system was set up.

"The continuous supply of electricity will ensure the round-the-clock operation of all necessary medical and non-medical equipment, and the medical institution will be able to provide uninterrupted medical services at any time, including during natural disasters. It is expected that more solar photovoltaic systems will be installed in other remote areas of Turkmenistan as part of this project," the organization stressed.

Furthermore, UNICEF is also in partnership with ‘ATscale’, a global partnership for assistive technology (AT), hosted by UNOPS, is supporting development of Turkmen text-to-speech voice.

The introduction of renewable energy sources in medical institutions of Turkmenistan represents environmental sustainability and economic benefits, enhances the image of institutions as socially responsible organizations, promotes innovations in the field of clean energy and progress in healthcare, stimulating the transition to a more environmentally friendly future for the country.
